Learn the Essentials of Permaculture Design and the building blocks for a great garden!

Permaculture is all about growing food in a ecologically sound and environmentally friendly manner. The techniques used in Permaculture design are unique for every site and result in well designed, efficient and beautiful gardens that provide an abundant return for any home gardener or farmer. 

This workshop will provide you with the basic skill to start your own Permaculture garden. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or a newbie, this course is packed with simple tips and tricks to get you started. If you are interested in garden design or sustainable living, this system is for you!

Topics covered will include:

– Growing your own healthy soil through proper composting and soil management techniques

– Harvesting rainwater for happier plants, the benefits of rainwater harvesting are countless and not to mention rain is a free resource!

– Home garden design, veggies and herbs are often overlooked for their beauty we will discuss how to use annual veggies and herbs to fill in and enhance your ornamental garden 

-The power of perennials, plant once for continued harvest. Perennial herbs, berries fruits and nuts can provide a bountiful harvest year after year, this it truly efficient gardening.

-Small Space – no problem! Small and garden solutions to beautify your balcony, backyard or even your boulevard!

Get Dirty!: We will finish the day with a hands on lesson in how to create new garden beds easily and with no digging! Sheet Mulching is a great way to “turf” the lawn and create rich organic soil naturally with very little work!

This workshop will be held on the picturesque Tranquille Farm in North Kamloops, this site is home to the Tranquille Farmer’s Market and over the years will be developed in to the perfect demonstration site for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture in the Thompson Region. In the years to come the Tranquille Farm site will have a key focus on Community Development, Community Health and Wellness and Community Service and education. Come be a part of a evolution of something great right here in BC!
