Further Info:
As feed prices keep rising, wouldn’t it be great to off set the costs of grain with onsite animal forage. By learning to plant perennial plants, shrubs and trees you can start to grow your own forage crops that can actually add to the health of your livestock.
Perennial forage systems are easy to maintain and can last for generations. By developing a perennial silvopasture system you can learn to diversify your diet, grow your own fodder crops and increase your farm’s product offerings, which can all lead to a happier, healthier farmer! Hey, that’s you!
Why is this information important?
Access to farmland is getting more and more difficult, as designers we are seeing small-scale suburban farms popping up all over the Okanagan/Shuswap. That’s why it crucial to create a diverse, well laid-out farm that produces higher yields and healthier soils than the big guys.
What does a brewery have to do with farming?
Crannog Ales is a Certified Organic working farm with on-site Organic Mico-Brewery. Crannóg Ales Brewery, owned by our hosts Brian and Rebecca, is located on the ten-acre farm in Sorrento, BC. The farm and brewery are fully integrated, with the brewery providing food for the livestock, and the farm providing hops for the brewery. The water for the brewery comes from a well in the middle of our farm, fed by springs on the farm as well as streams from the mountains which surround the area.
The brewery is the marriage of two dreams: for Brain and Rebecca the dream was to farm organically, and to own their own brewery and they strive to live up to their dreams every day.
