Element Eco-Design is a husband and wife duo, Gordon Hiebert and Jana Macnab.
Since starting Element Eco-Design in 2010, Gord and Jana have combined their specializations in Energy Efficient Building, Land Management and Permaculture Design to create integrated sustainable home and land systems that interact harmoniously with nature.
In September 2009, Gordon and Jana were introduced to Permaculture by Mechanical Engineer and Permaculture Instructor, Rob Avis of Verge Permaculture. The couple was inspired by the holistic design approach and ethics surrounding Permaculture.
In April 2010, Gordon and Jana traveled to Australia to enrol in the Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course from world-renowned Permaculture Designer, Geoff Lawton of the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia. Lawton taught the couple to effectively stack, seemingly unrelated, functions to create more efficient systems that work with – rather than against nature.
Feeling a need to be closer to family the couple moved from Calgary, AB to explore a more sustainable lifestyle in the plentiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Settling in Vernon and armed with knowledge and passion the couple is working hard to green and re-hydrate the landscape of Central BC to preserve it for generations to come.
